Pediatric Care Group is excited to welcome our newest pediatrician Dr. Angela Wang to the practice. Dr. Wang graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
We had the chance to sit down with her to learn more about her background and why she’s excited to join Pediatric Care Group…
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Michigan. I stayed in Michigan for college partly because I really like the cold weather and winter months. I went to the University of Michigan for college where I received an outstanding education.
Family is important to me. I have a younger sister who I am very close with. She and I grew up in the suburbs of Michigan with my mother and father. My sister is now studying to become a lawyer.
What do you think is the biggest difference living here versus the midwest?
Michigan itself has a lot of natural, scenic things such as lakes and mountains. I enjoy hiking so living in Michigan was fun. I now live in center city Philadelphia and everything is much more accessible and in walking distance. I have lived in Pennsylvania for several years and like that I am able to easily travel to the mountains, the shore, city parks and other outdoor locations.
Why did you want to become a doctor?
I just grew up knowing that I wanted to be a doctor. My dad is a physician, as are my paternal grandparents. It was definitely a family thing! As for pediatrics, I have always wanted to help children and love talking to kids. Knowing that I can make a difference in a child’s life is important to me.
Coming from St. Christopher’s – one of the premier pediatric residency programs in the country – you could have worked anywhere. Why did you choose Pediatric Care Group?
I think it’s really amazing to work at PCG! I am so fortunate to be able to work with experienced and dedicated medical providers at PCG. I knew Dr. Lidd as a resident at St. Christopher’s, and she loves her experience at PCG. Dr. Mundell also graduated from St. Christopher’s, so it’s nice to have that common background. I also wanted to work in a private practice where meeting the patients’ needs is the priority. I like Jenkintown and the surrounding area. Working at PCG is just a good fit for me!
You do lactation consulting. Can you tell us about that and how you can help new moms?
I am a certified lactation consultant. What that really means is that I can offer support to new mothers and mothers who have been breastfeeding for a while. If they have any questions on breastfeeding, formula, or really any questions in general on the growth and development of their newborn child, I can help provide that additional support.
For many new moms, or even moms that have had kids, but now have a new baby, it’s already so stressful. It’s important to provide as much support to them as possible. I can talk to them about pumping and breast pumps, really anything that can make the process easier to navigate.
So moms can just make a regular physical appointment for their baby and get that guidance during the appointment?
Right, and if moms need any additional support, I have patients that I do bring back. We do a weight check and make sure the baby’s growing and we can also address any concerns that developed during the interim.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like hiking. I have a dog, and I enjoy taking him with me. My husband is actually an anesthesia resident at Jefferson right now, so we are quite busy. We like to travel when we can find the time. The last major trips were to Amsterdam, Paris and Belgium, but that was a while ago.
It seems your family just got a bit bigger recently.
Yes, I got married in July, so I’m excited about creating a new life with my husband. Our lives are so busy – my husband with his residency and me starting with PCG – that we haven’t yet taken a honeymoon!
Please help us in welcoming Dr. Angela Wang to Pediatric Care Group!
